This
house was designed for a south sloping lot with street access from the west.
To ensure sunlight in all bedrooms, ceilings were raised to 13 ft. with corner
glass panels to 12 ft high and 2 ft windows wrap round above roof height to
catch sunlight throughout the day. The three bedrooms plus dining room area
all have 13 ft ceilings and all are cantilevered. Notice that the front door
is under cover because of the cantilevered study/3rd bedroom above.
Though
there are stairs leading from the entrance hall to the second level, there
is also an elevator from the garage level to the living floor so that the
house is wheelchair accessible. All doors are 3 ft wide and the passages and
hall are at least 4 ft wide. A self contained guest suite is provided beyond
the double garage with exterior entrance to accommodate a possible future
live-in care giver.
The
2nd floor is all one level but the dining area ceiling pops up to 13 ft to
distinguish the dining area. The three bedrooms and the dining area pop-up
ceiling are all 14 ft squares.
