The
WOW factor in this house is the two storied gallery connecting the living
and dining rooms. The gallery opens up above the stairs under the sky lights
and includes the landing/computer desk space from which one looks across the
gallery through a two storied wall of windows - see drawings below with roof
removed.
The
house faces south on a private lot and has plenty of windows providing light
and attracting solar gain. Roller blinds in the bedrooms are mounted on the
window sills and pull upwards to provide privacy plus view when only partially
closed.

The
covered walk from the double carport provides dry access to the front door.
From the entrance hall one looks across the stairs to the dining room but
also up into the gallery space.
The
open plan spaces were designed for entertaining, with 10 ft. eating bar separating
the kitchen from the dining area and flowing into the living space and outside
patio.
There's
a pantry closet next to the fridge in the kitchen, but the utility room provides
plentry of storage for kitchen items along with a large coat closet next to
the back door and a broom closet under the stairs.
Glass
blocks next to the front door provide light. The airtight wood heater in the
living room will be sufficient to provide heat for the whole house, though
in-floor water heating will be installed throughout the first floor. The upstairs
bedrooms will have auxiliary electric baseboard heaters to adjust for comfort
levels.
The
sliding center panel of the patio door provides access to the patio, which
is on the sunny south side of the house.
There's
a path from the back door leading round to the patio (BBQ storage location)
but no outside access from the front door to the back door because of rocky
outcropping.

view showing one foot coloured band surrounding the second floor - into which
pot lights are installed throwing light down against the first floor exterior.
Similar pot lights are installed in the roof overhang above.

Bedrooms
#2 and #3 can be private by closing the pocket door leading from the landing/study
area into the square hall with skylight. There's also a pocket door leading
from bedroom #1 into the bathroom.
From
the seconmd floor landing/study space one looks across the rail down into
the gallery space and out the double storied glass windows.
