FAQs

ARCH HOUSE: Primary feature in the Arch House is the 'great room' (25'x16') with 'all-glass' end walls and 10 ft. ceilings. Designed for a city lot with neighbours on both sides - hence privacy deck above 'great room'.

First Floor: 1438 sq. ft. Neat semicircular entry with coat closet under stairs. There's a 4 ft. square skylight 22 ft. above the stairwell. Three 7ft. wide arches open into the 'great room', with a matching arch at the side recess. Notice the all glass end walls. The dining area can accommodate a banquet sized dining table on special occasions. Residents will use the door into the garage from the dining area next to an 8ft. wide coat closet, though there's also an entrance from the garage into the mud room - which doubles as a pantry off the kitchen. Notice the eating bar and telephone desk facing into the dining area. The garage is 24 ft. square with added work bench at small window and plenty of storage shelving backing onto the kitchen wall. The 10 ft. ceilings allow the 8ft. high windows to be one foot from the ceiling and one foot from the floor - windows are made up of 4ft. square sections.

Second Floor: 1038 sq. ft. Note the semicircular nook at the top of the stairs - an ideal spot for coffee and the morning papers. Up three more stairs and one looks out onto the deck above the great room. The water proof deck closet is to store deck furniture etc. Bedroom #1 has a dramatic curved wall of windows and the ensuite bathroom has a soaker tub as well as a shower stall. A washer and drier are located under a counter behind a roll-up door in the passage leading to the other bedrooms. A 4 ft. square skylight throws light into the space outside the bedrooms and second bathroom. Notice the computer desks lit by small windows in bedrooms #2 and #3. The wall to wall windows require blind coverings - no space for hanging curtains has been allowed for at the sides of the windows.

Walled Garden and Lap Pool: Adding a lap pool with security garden wall and side gates expands the living space. The privacy garden on the street side is to obstruct views into the 'great room' from the street.

Designer's Comments: To appreciate the spaciousness of the Arch House please click the 'detailed description' link below and read the 'walk-thru' commentary. A basement plan is available - the floor of the privacy garden off the entrance drops down 9ft. and the basement room under the 'great room' has a similar glazed wall facing into this sunken garden - creates a well lit recreation room below.
